Greece paralysed by 30cm snowfall

Severe snowstorms have left parts of southern and central Greece paralysed for the second day running. Traffic delays, closed roads and car accidents have been reported across the country, while many bus, plane and ship routes have been cancelled. Athens International Airport is virtually closed. Some people were left stranded in their cars for up to 18 hours running. Some neighbourhoods turned into ghost towns, as most people afraid to brave the streets. Snow reached as far as the eastern island of Samos. In the capital Athns, traditional soldiers outside parliament braved the cold with temperatures falling below zero. For the first time in a decade, Athenians saw snow on the Parthenon temple on the Acropolis.
